Still playing Commonwealth
For the better part of the last year I have been playing the tabletop game Commonwealth by Michael Hansen. I recommend it! It's a kind of sci-fi fallen-earth aristocrat simulator - its creactor describes it as "social climbing simulation inspired by En Garde!, The Book of the New Sun, and Barry Lyndon."
We played very slowly for the first few rounds and are now moving fairly fast. This is because everyone is now able to self-direct their gameplay and operate turns themselves without much help. When you get to this point, it moves at a pretty satisfying clip and people are able to get both rules-minmaxing and character-storytelling pleasures from this game. It seems to be making everyone at my table happy, for that reason, haha.
I'd say this game is something you should only be playing if your entire group is comfortable doing DM-adjacent activities, like reading and debugging rules issues themselves live at the table. The game is great, I have had a lot of fun with it... but it is complex, the rules do not clarify all the issues that may arise in gameplay very clearly, and you need to be constantly vigilant for finding such issues and tracking information yourself. The game does not provide you with the documentation you would need to track player character information well yourself.
The game is VERY "Book of the New Sun-coded" and it provides you with a rather vague setting you are meant to flesh out yourselves. My only other main complaint about the game is that there are few hooks or opportunities for nailing down some of the practical details of the world. I would love ore opportunities to force my table to describe things about the physical nature of the world, the customs in it, etc. Some of our gameplay feels rather rootless because we don't have official opportunities to nail these things down in the course of gameplay.
If you have a table of confident players who can solve rules ambiguities on their own and love Book of the New Sun, you should play this! It really is very weird and compelling. I have no idea how long we will keep playing it, since we don't have much of a gameplay target right now besides "survive." But it's been very worthwhile for me!
