Played Blood Dungeon
I just played Messhof's newest game, Blood Dungeon, a "vampire-survivors-like" (some people are calling these "bullet heaven" games??? but that's no less referential??) where you are 2D platforming instead of running around in an open field.
I like this a lot!! Having to platform around the hordes of enemies does make this genre a lot more fun for me. There's also a chest-spawning mechanic which forces you to zip around the level constantly rather than turtling - and this requirement to always keep moving forces you to get quite good at the movement mechanics. Jumping, clinging to surfaces, standing on or hanging from horizontal ropes, etc. all feels really good. It's a very adhesive little platformer. You feel like a spider! It makes you move and act like a gross little imp! I like that!
The game is crude in a kind of harmless way - two of the characters are nude and ones has a miniscule dangling dick. It's fine. It's the kind of thing that I wouldn't have been allowed to play as a kid but is completely harmless nevertheless. It's in keeping with an art style - everything is low-detail and scribbly and gross and nasty. I like it!
I am not good enough at games like these to get very far in them very quickly. I read a bunch of reviews complaining that the game gets too hard to fast, but I don't agree, and I can't tell whether that's because I'm not good enough to get into the deep end of the game, or because the reviewers themselves need to git good and I am better than them?? I am making progress slowly, but it's the kind of game where you can encounter a genuinely hard challenge, decide to try and overcome it, then stick at it for forty minutes and actually overcome it. I feel like I'm getting better at this game and that many different builds are viable.
Anyway!! I recommend you try it out if this is the kind of game you play. It has much more moment to moment challenge than most games I've played in this genre, and the platforming is delightful.
