Give my friends from Heart Machine a job
I haven't posted about this yet, but last week my friends and old coworkers still remaining at Heart Machine were all laid off. As far as I know, the company no longer has any development staff.
I don't have a full list of HM people looking for jobs, but some of my friends have posted demo reels and portfolios. In general, I wanted to say that everyone who was working at HM was extremely good at their job, and any of them would be a killer hire right now. There are so few jobs in this industry, so I know I'm kind of shouting into the void, but I'd give any of them a thumbs up if you asked me to weigh in on them. We went through a lot together and as a group I would take a bullet for them.
It's very odd to see the company basically cease production less than a year after I was laid off! I don't have much to say about it now other than: I'm sad they didn't get a better opportunity to show off what they can do. This is a crew with great craft skills and unusually good soft skills. It's hard to find people with a combo like that!
I wanted to withhold this post until I had a list of affected people to share, but I'm realizing that I probably won't for a while, and it's better to post now than wait. I suspect you can also find some of these people by searching for "Heart Machine" on LinkedIn. Many of my friends who were laid off during the multiple rounds of 2025 layoffs at that company are also still looking for jobs. If you know me IRL, I'm glad to talk them up to you anytime.
