Do you know about Govdeals??
This was my first post that "did severals" on Cohost back in July 2022. Glad to bring it here for the blog. Obviously, none of these sales are available anymore!
If you have never heard about this website, govdeals.com, I am excited to introduce you to it.
GovDeals is a US auction site where verified government agencies can sell random crap to civilians. Imagine a place where your local school districts are selling 30 cafeteria fry baskets next to your local hospitals, which are selling fucking x-ray machines. Imagine a place where you could buy all of your hometown's broken lawnmowers. Imagine a place where you can browse through lots of like, 50 microcopes or whatever, and the government will only sell you 50 microscopes at once, and refuses to sell you any smaller amount of microscopes. This is GovDeals. Note: I have never bought anything on GovDeals. I do not know what it's like to actually buy things here. But I do frequently visit this website for entertainment purposes and it is a fantastic source of this rare and precious resource.
Here's the funniest thing I have ever found on GovDeals: a fifteen foot long canoe with a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure reference painted on its side. Why does the LA Unified School District have a canoe at all?? Who let the teens paint Jojo references on it?? I will never know. I salute everyone involved in this and I'm so sad that the teens don't get to have it anymore. Congrats to GovDeals user j*******o, who bought it for $165.00. I hope you're enjoying the Pacific fucking Ocean in your canoe (??) and are not dead. I hope you are as powerful as Joseph Joestar in this boat.
Let's browse GovDeals today and see what's being sold within a hundred miles of my city, Los Angeles.
- Damn!! The Santa Monica bus service is selling a fucking bus!! Do you want a bus?? Get on this shit! This bus is only 7 years old! The starting Bid is $5000! I dunno if that's a good deal for a bus, but if you want one and are in Los Angeles you can get a government bus!
- The LAUSD always delivers hardcore on GovDeals and today is no exception--here is a golf cart covered in a tiger stripe pattern, with the word SECURITY written across the front hood. Oh my god, this rules. I wish I had a reason to own this. There's 8 days left and the current bid is fucking $250 USD!! What!!
- The LAUSD is also selling a mini grand piano (extremely busted looking) for five dollars. FIVE DOLLARS!! Nobody has bid on this. Do you need an extremely fucked up looking piano for, like, art reasons?? the LAUSD has you covered!
- The UCLA Medical Center is selling a nuclear gamma camera so if you have 800 bucks you can use it to take x rays of yourself. I have seen this precise machine on GovDeals before... they must be constantly relisting it because nobody fucking wants it lmao
- The Jurupa School District (never heard of this place) is selling "over 800" laptops which is pretty hardcore. The starting bid was $50 which seems fucking unhinged. (Right now the bid is $12,200... no idea if this is a good price for this or not lmao). 40 bids on this lot so far... a hot item!!
- GovDeals is always great for cryptic electronics. This other Jurupa lot, a pallet of misc electronics is probably interesting to someone, as the current bid is only $10.
- Some listings on GovDeals are limited to locals. I approve of that limitation on the stuff Bear Valley is selling. They've got practically every street sign in the town, seems like, up for sale, to offset the cost of new signs. You could buy your own street sign if you live there. Cute!
- Do you want, just like, a whole mess of axes? Well you can have em. Currently $77 which seems like it's getting a bit pricey for used axes
Take a look and tell me what is for sale near you!! Hope it's interesting!
